Niky Lowe Obituary, Death – Brampton Lacrosse Community Mourns Talented Young Goaltender
The Brampton, Ontario, lacrosse community is mourning the loss of Niky Lowe, a young athlete whose dedication to the sport and positive personality left a lasting impression on teammates, friends, coaches and family.
Niky’s death was reported on September 10, 2026, and a fundraising appeal from members of the Brampton Excelsior community confirmed that he passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. The fundraiser also revealed that Niky had been facing a serious health challenge after doctors discovered a large mass behind his lungs in 2025. He underwent chemotherapy during a difficult period that supporters said he faced with courage and positivity.
Remembering Niky Lowe
Lacrosse was a major part of Niky’s life from a young age. His connection to the sport extended through the Brampton lacrosse system and the Brampton Excelsiors, where he developed relationships with teammates, coaches and families.
Brampton Minor Lacrosse Association records show that Niky was recognized for both his commitment to the organization and his character. He was among the recipients of the BMLA Veteran’s Award in 2022, an award recognizing graduating players who had spent more than 11 years playing lacrosse in Brampton. He was also named a BMLA Citizenship Award recipient in 2022 and 2025.
His involvement in the sport stretched back years. Ontario lacrosse records list Niky on a Brampton team at the 2018 A Qualifiers, wearing No. 39, showing how long he had been part of the local lacrosse community.
Niky later continued as a goaltender with the Brampton Excelsiors. His player records list him as a goalie born May 19, 2006, while the 2026 NLL draft profile recorded his Brampton connection and his role with the Excelsiors.
Beyond statistics and competition, those who knew Niky remembered the person behind the jersey. He was described as positive, determined and deeply committed to the people and sport around him. His ability to continue finding strength through lacrosse during difficult circumstances became part of the story shared by those supporting him.
