Keaton Wallace Bowen Obituary, Death – The Lansing, Michigan, community is mourning the loss of Keaton Wallace Bowen, an 11-year-old remembered by his family and friends for his extraordinary curiosity, love of music and movies, passion for performing and ability to bring joy to the people around him.

Keaton died on September 7, 2026. His obituary was published by Skinner Funeral Home in Lansing on September 10 and describes him as one of the brightest stars in his family’s galaxy. He was born in Lansing on December 18, 2014, to Blake and Shannon Bowen, with his grandmother Janet Bowen present to welcome him.

A Young Boy With an Extraordinary Love of Music

Music was one of the defining passions of Keaton’s life.

His family remembered his deep knowledge of artists and his particular love for grunge and alternative music. Among the musicians he admired were Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Prince, Depeche Mode and Weird Al, while he also appreciated artists including Phil Collins and Ed Sheeran.

His interest in music went beyond simply listening. Keaton owned a Walkman and enjoyed playing vintage cassettes, taking pride in building and curating his own music collection.

His mother took him to his first concert in 2023 to see Ed Sheeran, an experience that became especially memorable when Eminem made a surprise appearance. Their final concert together came in August, when they saw Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age.

A Natural Performer

Keaton’s love of the arts extended to the stage.

His connection with theater began even before he was born, when his mother was pregnant with him during a production of “Clybourne Park,” directed by his father.

He later performed for three consecutive years in his school’s Disney Musical productions, an accomplishment he approached with pride and dedication. He also developed a passion for dance through Karyn’s Dance Place, where his performances included a solo in 2025 that left family and friends deeply impressed.

More recently, Keaton served as a line coach for his mother as she prepared for a production at Peppermint Creek, a role that reflected both his enthusiasm for performance and his willingness to encourage others.

Dreams of Acting and Making Ice Cream

Keaton dreamed of becoming an actor and an ice cream maker.

He loved movies and kept a list of films he wanted to watch with his sister. Among his favorites were “Forrest Gump,” “Once” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”

He and his father were also working their way through the Marvel films as they looked ahead to the upcoming Doctor Doom movie.

Travel was another source of happiness for Keaton. His family recalled his affection for hotels, which he playfully referred to as “the room.” A family trip to New York City gave him the opportunity to see Broadway shows and explore the city with his parents.

Remembered by His School Community

Keaton attended Post Oak Academy from pre-kindergarten and developed close friendships there. His school friends called him “Cosmo,” and he treasured the time they spent together sharing books, movies and other interests.

His family expressed profound gratitude to the children and adults who welcomed Keaton and helped make his school community an important part of his life.

Keaton identified as pansexual, and his family said they were proud to support him and stand as his allies.

His family also thanked numerous people and organizations that were part of his childhood, including Dr. Cami Chapin, Scribbles and Giggles, Post Oak Academy, the Westside YMCA, Lansing Parks and Recreation, Lansing Community College’s summer program and Karyn’s Dance Place. They offered special thanks to Mr. Josh of the YMCA, who they said made Keaton feel seen from an early age.

Remembering Keaton’s Bright Spirit

Keaton is survived by his parents, Blake and Shannon, and his sister, Adelyne, along with a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Bowen, and the family dog, Fiyero. His obituary also remembers the many artists he admired, including Chris Cornell, Prince and Tim Curry.

A scholarship fund is being established in Keaton’s name through MSU Federal Credit Union. The family has also provided information about interim donations while the scholarship is being organized.
